It was early morning in the fall of 2023. I sat at my desk as an accountant, surrounded by spreadsheets and pension reports, the quiet hum of the coffee machine marking the start of another routine day. Outside, a gas station glowed faintly through thick fog while the world still slept, save for Tim Hortons employees frying donuts and brewing barely passable coffee.
That morning felt different. I put on Yann Tiersen, and something inside me fractured—an epiphany I couldn’t ignore. A single thought took root: This isn’t my life.
The career I had built felt like a script I had memorized but never written. It was someone else’s dream, handed to me like a tidy, suffocating uniform. I promised myself I wouldn’t ignore the feeling. I would let myself dream freely—and I wouldn’t stop until that life became real.
That moment was my turning point. Like water boiling under a lid, pressure building, ready to spill. I saw the future I was heading toward if I stayed: years wasted, a quieter misery, a version of myself bitter for having followed advice from people too afraid to live authentically. But this wasn’t despair—it was liberation. For the first time in years, I listened to my own voice.
Today, that voice is all I hear. The compliant accountant, the people pleaser, the dutiful follower—gone. What remains is what some might call delusion, but for me, it’s a compass. An unshakable belief in my vision that guides every creative act. This force can’t be taught or bought—it lives within all of us, waiting to be claimed.
My work is not just art; it’s resilience and reclamation. Every piece begins in chaos and becomes something bold, tactile, and alive through discipline and labor. These textural sculptures are meant to be experienced, not just seen—to be felt, to carry energy. I don’t finish a piece until it holds that charge.
My name is Mel. I’m from Nova Scotia, Canada, and I’ve spent over two decades immersed in art, exploring and refining a blend of mediums that speak to me most. I create original textural structures using resins, clays, and plasters, finished with spray paint, pastels, acrylics, and airbrush work—art designed to stand apart in an AI-driven world.
Recently, my practice has expanded into large-scale murals, a natural extension of my desire to bring movement, texture, and energy into shared spaces. Each mural is custom-designed with the same intention as my sculptures, transforming environments into something bold, beautiful, and alive.
